Hi, Sunday was supposed to be a family trip up to hike in the Camden Hills and walk out to the Rockland Breakwater lighthouse, but life got in the way and an ex co-worker of my wifes passed away and she wanted to go to the wake that evening. I decided to get up at 2:30 and head up to do a little scouting trip anyhow and be back in time for her to go to the wake. So on 3 hours of sleep I made the three hour ride up to the Camden Hills on the midcoast of Maine in some of the densest fog I've ever seen. Hoping to catch the sunrise from the 800 foot high summit of Mt. Battie, but the fog slowed me down enough that I just missed it. Fortunately for the rest of the trip about ten minutes from the hike I drove out of it and wound up with a beautiful day for a hike in an area I'd yet to explore. Straight from the AMC Maine Mountain Guide...The Camden Hills rise above the western shore of Penobscott Bay. They share many charachteristics with the Mt. Desert Island mountains 40 miles to the east--fine softwood frests, bold cliffs and ledges, and wide vistas of water and mountains. Mt. Megunticook (1385 ft) is the highest of the group and, with the exception of Cadillac Mtn., is the highest point along the eastern Atlantic seaboard of the United States.
